Willistown Hires Australian Contractors

What Happened: On April 14th, 2025, Supervisors William Shoemaker and Robert Lange voted to award a $6.5 million government no-bid contract to BlueScope Construction. The contract is for the construction of a new Public Works Building for the 9 employees of the roads crew.

Australian Contractors: BlueScope Construction is an Australian multinational corporation with headquarters in Melbourne, Australia. No American contractors were invited to bid on the project.

In fact, there were no bids from any other contractors because Supervisors Shoemaker and Lange said they did not want to go through the normal competitive bidding process. Supervisor Molly Perrin however, opposed the no bid process and supported a competitive bidding process.

Request for Action: I urge you to write to Lange and Shoemaker and request that they TERMINATE THE CONTRACT and GET COMPETITIVE BIDS from AMERICAN CONTRACTORS. This will ensure that the taxpayers' money is spent responsibly and that the project is awarded to the most qualified and cost-effective contractor.

Sample email:

Dear (William Shoemaker or Robert Lange),

I believe this $6.5M No-Bid government contract should be terminated and we should we should get competitive bids from American contractors

We have dozens of good local AMERICAN contractors that can build this project.

Please terminate the contract and get competitive bids. This is good stewardship of taxpayer dollars.

Sincerely yours,(you name)
